Campus Lab School

Our Program

The Campus Lab School at Green River Community College serves as a classroom for young children as well as a site for Early Childhood Education (ECE) students to begin their teaching experience under the direction of college faculty.  Parents also assist in the classroom and must register for two college credits each quarter.   Parents enrolled in the class are given a discount on their child's monthly tuition.

The morning program follows the Montessori Method of Education. The classroom is fully-equipped with Montessori materials and is led by a certificated instructor/teacher who is trained in the method.  The Montessori preschool meets Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday
9:30-12n.

The afternoon program follows the basic ideas of the Reggio Emilia philosophy which offers the children opportunities in creativity and play.  Academic skills such as pre-reading, pre-writing, and pre-math are approached in a hands-on, exploratory manner through large and small group activities.  The afternoon preschool meets Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays 12:30-3:00p.

Both programs provide a balanced curriculum with experiences in science, cooking, music, and literacy.  Children between the ages of 3-5 years are accepted.  Children may enroll in both morning and afternoon but must be picked up at noon and returned at 12:30.

Our Philosophy

We believe that a child's early school experience builds a foundation for success in later in life.  Each child is a unique individual.  We know that children develop in different areas at different rates.  We understand that children move into new stages of growth and development only when they are "ready", which means they have mastered a necessary previous stage.  For this reason, our program is designed to meet each child at their own rate.  You will find our program provides many opportunities for children to practice and repeat successful activities as well as face new challenges.

We believe in the growth of the whole child involving the developmental areas of social and emotional development, creative academics and physical development.
