(State Training & Registry System)
STARS
is a career development system for those who work in child
care and early education, and school-age care.
Green River Community College offers the Washington state mandated Basic 20
hours STARS training along with continuing STARS approved workshops,
conferences and courses. All Family child care providers, child care
and school age center directors, program supervisors, lead teachers, and
site coordinators are required to complete the 20-hour Basic STARS training within
six months of being
hired/licensed.
The training is broken into specific competency
areas: Child growth and development, child guidance, health and
safety. Students will be actively engaged in relevant, as well as
applicable activities throughout the course. The goal is to offer
providers ways to deal appropriately with common early childhood situations.
Students get a brief lesson in the Minimum Licensing Requirements and
Public Health Departments guidelines.
