The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students attempt to access campus with a physical disability…

As part of our curriculum, the first year OTA students study The American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and architectural barriers.  Part of this learning includes the use of a mobility aid (wheelchair, walker, cane, crutches) to identify architectural barriers on campus.  During the Physical Disabilities course the students will have the opportunity to function with a disability for at least a 24 hour period.

Being faced with a physical disability and requiring the use of a mobility aid or other adaptation is part of what occupational therapy practitioners focus on with the patients they treat.  We help individuals regain lost skills or learn new skills that will allow greater independence with activities of daily living…the tasks you complete from the time you wake until you go back to sleep and everything in between.

The demand for OTA’s is growing and will continue to grow for many years to come.  If we can provide you with more information about our program or the field in general, please contact us.  We are always excited to talk about the occupational therapy field.
