WelDING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

GRC Welding technology

An approved Welder Qualifying Agency

The Welding Technology Program at Green River College combines multiple learning techniques including hands-on training and classroom instruction to reach the goals for educational excellence in various welding styles and specialized welding processes. Students are educated in the increasingly technological aspects of the welding industry as they acquire skills necessary to enter the welding trade or one of the many related fields.

As an approved Welder Qualifying Agency in the GRC Trades Division, Welding Technology is designed to complete training in the shortest time possible for reaching proficiency levels required to pass the American Welding Society (AWS) or competencies in the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO) tests. The welding industry is becoming increasingly more technical and students are given the opportunity to learn current techniques in order to prepare for job placement, certificates of proficiency, or an AAS degree.

The Welding Technology program is an open entry program, allowing students to enroll at the beginning of any quarter with instructor’s permission based on availability. Learn skills toward becoming a structural steel detailer, engineering aide, quality inspector, shop planner or supervisor, or one of the many skilled trades related to welding technology. Trade welding processes include instruction in:

  • SMAW: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (stick)
  • GMAW: Gas Metal Arc Welding (mig / wire-fed with shielding gas)
  • FCAW: Flux-Cored Arc Welding (wire-fed)
  • GTAW: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (tig)
