Mission Statement
The Automotive Technology Department provides community
learners with quality, state-of-of-the-art training leading to an Associates of
Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology. Students receive
outcome-oriented, curricular offered in individual and group learning
environments designed to meet the needs of all learners. The faculty utilizes
the latest teaching techniques, sound learning objectives, and state-of-the-art
equipment to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to gain
entry-level technician employment in the ever-changing Automotive Repair
Industry.
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1: To assist students in obtaining the technical
skills and workplace ethics necessary to qualify for employment and success in
the Automotive Repair Industry.
Objective 1a: Meet twice yearly with Advisory
Committee to review curriculum and equipment and update curriculum in response
to changes in the industry.
Objective 1b: Work with college administration to
ensure necessary resources to keep faculty current through faculty development
opportunities.
Objective 1c: Maintain a facility and inventory of
tools, equipment, and technology that duplicates a professional automotive
repair business.
Objective 1d: Align our curriculum with that of a
national organization whose purpose is to promote professionalism and integrity
within the industry.
Objective 1e: Provide workplace ethics education
through an example set by faculty and via the incorporation of attendance,
punctuality, respect for peers and cultural diversity in the evaluation of
students. The faculty of the automotive technology program will not be tolerated
inflammatory speech, ethnic slurs, sexual harassment, or disrespect of cultural
and personal differences.
Goal 2: To be an active partner with local high schools in
the promotion, recruitment, and education of future professionals for the
automotive repair industry.
Objective 2a: Maintain and promote Tech. Prep.
Articulation agreements with interested high schools in our consortium.
Objective 2b: Promote the Running Start Program in
South King County.
Goal 3: To increase the percentage of students who complete
the program with an AAS degree.
Objective 3a: Institute a process to provide each
learner with regular comprehensive and personal advising.
Objective 3b: Work with other divisions to ensure
that the related General Education courses are conveniently offered.
Goal 4: To stress within the curriculum and facility the
latest environmental and safety practices.
Objective 4a: Operate the program in compliance with
the latest environmental and safety practices.
Objective 4b: Work with the college administration
and facilities department to insure that the shop meets all appropriate
ecological and safety standards.
Goal 5: To increase the use of state-of-the-art multi-media
training resources.
Objective 5a: Develop internet reference materials
and training programs
Objective 5b: Establish and maintain a library of
the latest inter-active training software.
Objective 5c: Network all lab computers so that
access is easily attainable by students.
