Mission & Goals

Mission Statement

The Auto Body Technology department serves the community by providing students with the training necessary for a successful entrance in to the collision repair industry. Through hands on practice and small group lecture, this state-of-the-art, competency-based curriculum stresses quality and a proper work ethic. Successful completion of this program can lead to an AAS degree, providing graduates with the skills necessary to advance within the trade.

Goals

  1. To maintain a learning environment that duplicates the state-of-the-art technology and procedures currently utilized in the collision repair industry.
    Objectives:
    • Maintain an active advisory committee of industry experts, whose purpose is to advise the program on equipment and curriculum needs. (meet twice yearly)
    • Work with college administration to ensure necessary resources for faculty training updating.
    • Maintain a facility of tools, equipment and technology that duplicates a professional collision repair business.
    • Align our curriculum with that of national organizations whose purpose is to promote professionalism and integrity within the industry
  2. To be an active partner with local high schools in the promotion, recruitment and education of future professionals for the collision repair industry.
    Objectives:
    • Maintain and promote Tech. Prep. Articulation agreements with interested high schools in our consortium.
    • Actively pursue the creation of a high school auto body program, whereby GRCC would serve as the host facility.
    • Promote the Running Start Program in South King County.
  3. To increase the percentage of students that complete the program with an AAS degree.
    Objectives:
    • Institute a process to provide each learner with regular comprehensive and personal advising..
    • Work with other divisions to ensure that the related General Education courses are conveniently offered.
  4. To stress within the curriculum and the facility, the latest environmental and safety practices.
    Objectives:
    • Operate the course in compliance with the latest environmental and safety practices.
    • Work with the college administration and facilities department with the purpose of upgrading the shop to meet all appropriate ecological and safety standards.
  5. To include emphasis on workplace ethics and tolerance for differences throughout the curriculum
    Objectives:
    • Incorporate evaluation of work ethics and tolerance for differences in the grading standards for all classes.
    • Continue to promote the program and the industry as a career to diverse and non-traditional groups.
