HIV and AIDS

            HIV/human immunodeficiency virus/ is the virus that causes AIDS-Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. HIV was discovered in 1983. It is a virus that attacks and breaks down the body’s immune system. Human immune system that helps keeps people free from many infections and some cancers.

            AIDS/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome/ is a disease that affects a worldwide population. It has been estimated that 34,3 million people all over the world have AIDS. It is the condition people develop after getting one or more infections connected with HIV, or when blood tests show their immune system has been very badly damaged by the virus.

            HIV gets into the body and it can hide for months or years, and during this time it may be doing serious damage to the immune system. People who appear perfectly healthy may have the virus, without it, and pass it on the others.
