My Story My name is Gihae and I am Korean. I have been in the U.S.A for three years. At first time, I made many mistakes in English, and I was disappointed with myself because I couldn’t do anything. I didn’t read any Korean books because I needed to study English, but I like Korean books too. I enjoy learning English at school. I am planning to spend a lot of time for English next year. I want to speak English fluently like an American. I grew up in a conservative family in Korea. Korean culture is to cooperate with each family and neighbor, but America is an individualistic culture. Most of the things in Korea are different from America. I like American children who grow up as independent people. My parents dedicated their life to my siblings and me, and supported everything we can do. My parents often expressed their love as my children are the apple of my eye. I have one son. I want him to have a good life without regretting anything in America. He accepts American culture quickly, so I try to learn how American culture is different from Korean culture, because I will understand him easier. I believe in permitting the free expression of his opinions. I would like to be connection with my son for a long time. |
