My Story

My name is Susan Kim. I came from Korea. I already introduced myself at 2002 Spring Quarter. Prior to registration at Green River Community College, I worked in Kent School District for 5 months as substitute instructor assistant; however, I had to quit because it was hard to fit working time in the time before my children returned home after school. In the short interim, I felt the need of my English study, and I have been coming to GRCC from 2002 Winter Quarter. Before coming here, I didn’t have a lot of chance to speak English, because I never had exposure to American society except substitute instructor assistant experience. When I spoke English, I always wondered it my expression is right or not. If somebody didn’t understand what I said, I used to be embarrassed and oppressed. It seems to me as if ESL class is a shelter. When I speak and write in English in this class, I don’t need to hesitate. Even if my expression is wrong, I don’t need to be ashamed. I don’t need to worry about whatever I speak and write in English. I can feel free. I think here is a good place for me to practice English. Also, the best thing is that there is a teacher who helps me and corrects the things to be wrong.  Under good condition like these, according to my endeavor, I believe I will be able to improve my English.
