My Story

My name is Svetlana. My family came to America in July, 2001.We were sad when our family moved because we left many friends there and we remember them and our country. I often think about them.

In my country, I worked at a pharmacy. I liked my job. I often ask myself, what I want to do in this new country? In the future I would like to get a good job, have our own house and take care of children. My goal as soon as possible is to improve my language, but now my English isn’t enough.

As soon as we arrived to America I saw beautiful nature, tall mountains, noisy cities, more cars, lorries, busses and smiling American people. All was very interesting. Later, I knew popular question, which people ask each other, ”How are you?” Then I didn’t understand it. That’s why much of my time I began to study grammar and try to read easy books.

I can read, and I can write.

I can speak English too.

I love learning English.

And what about you?

My hobby is to listen to music, to read books and cook. I always enjoy listening to English cassettes.

I have two daughters. My older daughter is 13 years old and my younger daughter is 7 years old. On Sunday our family always goes to church. Sometimes on the weekend we visit our friends and rest in the park. I believe America is a wonderful and friendly country. “Don’t give up” I said to myself.
