Student Stories - Fall 2000

My Story

My name is Mahvash. I came from Iran. I was born and grew up in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. I’m married and I have two children.  My daughter is sixteen years old, and she is in tenth grade in Kent Wood High School. My son is eleven years old, and he is in sixth grade in Carriage Crest Elementary School. I came to the United States four months ago. I came to the USA, because it is a free country, and I can do whatever I want.  I can work everywhere; I can study at university; and the most important thing for me is that my children can go to the university.

I am Bahai. In Iran we don’t have any freedom, and we cannot go to college and university.  We cannot work at any places like the other people, for example we cannot be a teacher. We can only work in a few private companies or have our own business.

I think we are starting to live again and we have many plans. I started ESL class two months ago and I want to go to college to take a course in office or international business.  During my study, I will try to get a job. My husband is studying English and wants to go to college too. We all like the USA very much. I hope my dad and my mom can come here.
