KOREAN FOOD

Introduction

Korean food is very spicy.

Korean food is made of various vegetables because they are very low in calories.

Cooking is usually done by broiling or frying.

Korean food uses these seasonings: red pepper, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, green onion, sesame oil and fermented soybean paste (daenjang).

Traditional Korean foods are

1.stir-fried small octopus (nakji bokkum)

2.Korean barbecued beef ( bul-kogi)

3.pickled vegetables (kim chi)

4.starch noodle with vegetable & beef (chap chae)

5.ginseng chicken soup (samgye tang)

6. green onion pancake with seafood (pajeon)

I like introduce bul-kogi, pajeon, and  samgyetang with ginseng among the above food.

Korean Barbecued Beef (Pul-kogi)

Pul-kogi represents the Korean food.

Use less fat beef with soy sauce, sugar, garlic, sesame oil sauce on it. After dipping the beef in the sauce,  grill it until it well done. Since it’s different from other hot spicy Korean foods,  many people like them.

Green Onion Pancake with Seafood

Pajeon (Korean style pizza)

Mainly use seafood, especially oysters and clams, and green onions in a mixture of  flour and beaten eggs. After  putting the seafood and the green onions in the mixture, pan fry them deeply. Since it has many more calories than other Korean foods, we usually eat pajeon as a little appetizer with alcoholic drinks.

 Ginseng Chicken Soup

Samgye-tang (ginseng with chicken soup)

This is a Korean health food.  We make it by boiling chicken and ginseng together for a long time.

This food is eaten during really hot summer time. The Korean summer is very hot and humid, so Koreans like to eat the samgye-tang so they can keep their health..

About Ginseng:

. The first reference to the health-enhancing use of Asian ginseng dates to the first century A.D., in which the writer mentions ginseng’s use as follows: “It is used for repairing the five viscera, quieting the spirit, curbing the emotion, stopping agitation, removing noxious influence, brightening the eyes, enlightening the mind and increasing wisdom. Continuous use leads one to longevity with light weight.” Ginseng was commonly used by elderly persons in the Orient to improve mental and physical vitality.
