My Story

My name is Youngjin Kim and I’m from Korea. When I was born, my grandpa gave me another name. It was actually a man’s name. I didn’t know my name was a man’s name because I was too young. Since many friends at preschool laughed me at, I came to hate the school. So my parents changed my name. But this name also is another man’s name.

When I was young, I was a very quiet person as I am now. I couldn’t do anything at elementary school because I was too shy. So my mom forced my activities outside such as ballet, chorus, and reading storybook in a broadcasting station. So my life in young age was very busy, pretending to be outgoing.

I entered to the university and I thought life was very happy and I could do everything. I had many friends and many activities. Because my major was pharmacology, I went to the country areas that didn’t have a doctor and hospital with medical students to help the poor. At there I met one man who felt too sorry for the poor, he and I came to fall in love. As soon as I finished the school, we got married. We were always busy as I was a pharmacist, and my husband was a professor in the hospital. But he wanted more studying in wider world. I also wanted to go to the U.S.A for an education for my children. I have been in the U.S.A for almost 9 months. The first time I was embarrassed and confused because of my terrible English. But these days I’ve come to be adapted very much with still terrible speaking, and horrible listening. I hope to learn more English and my children to increase their aptitude in this country and have many opportunities.
