My Story My name is Ben Chon and my native land is South Korea. My final graduation was from Merchant Marine Academy in Busan, Korea. My major was navigation and I became a seaman in the capacity of officer and captain of many ocean going vessels for ten years. I crossed the Pacific Ocean and the Panama Canal numerous times for the trans-Pacific trade route between Far East Asian countries and East and West coasts of United States. During my tenure of seaman’s life, I encountered many big storms and typhoons, but my God saved me from all kinds of distress and danger. After 10 years of sea life, I came to the United States as an owner’s representative of my company, named Korea Shipping Corporation, and took care of all ships coming to the ports such as New York, Baltimore, Galveston, Houston, and Los Angeles. I really enjoyed my job and thank God for giving me such a wonderful work. Three years ago, I retired and now I live in Auburn, Washington and I have been a student of ESL class of GRCC. Now I can tell you that I am a computer enthusiastic because of Prof. John Avery and other good instructors of this 055 class. |
