Essay about Immigration
What is the value of immigration to America?
In the past, many people immigrated to America looking for a
better life. This continues today. Immigrants have benefit that they can get a
chance for a better life according to their efforts. Also, America gets a economic,
social and cultural benefits through immigrants, like a supply of low wage
labor and highly trained technicians, contribution of economy, society, and
culture.
Immigrants offer the manpower that
America needs. Immigrants provide labor for jobs that Americans dislike to do;
such as farmer, factory worker, landscaper and cleaner. They receive low wages
for those jobs. If immigrants don’t work at low wages, American would have to
pay more. Before the crash in stocks, my husband worked at AT&T. In his
office, many immigrants who were educated at their country worked as engineers.
Office people jokingly said that our office’s public language is a Mandarin.
They worked at low salaries under the condition they would get a Green Card
after few years. America gets high ranking manpower at low wage without
educating them.
Immigrants contribute to the
development of America’s economy and society. In the beginning, they start the
life of immigration with no money, but they work hard, and after a while most
of them settle down soon and get their own business. Some immigrants bring the
money from their country and invest it in America. Immigrant make America’s
economy strong. Even though immigrant’s parents sacrifice their lives, they
have enthusiasm about their children’s education. Through my experience, many
out of their children become the role model students who do the best. When they
grow up, they will be good citizens.
Immigrants give America the chance
to know the cultures of many countries. They introduce their food, religion,
clothes and ideology to America. For example, it is known that many Americans
practice yoga and meditate. These days show a tendency that the world is
becoming unified. Through immigrants, America can develop an understanding
about other countries. Immigrants are midway between America and other
countries that immigrants come from. When America carries out diplomatic policy
or trade with foreign nations, it will be easier to deal with those nations.
As above, immigrant give influence
to America in the many aspects. Even if the work is menial or technical,
immigrants give it their full effort. They try to form the sound economic,
social and cultural base. Also, most of them try to perform the duties of good
citizens. Their contributions to the many aspects of America's prosperity is
great.
