Using the Online Catalog

 1. On the Holman Library “home page,” look for the words Holman Library Catalog under Research Tools.

 2. Move the mouse pointer to Holman Library Catalog and click once.  This will take you to the Holman Library Catalog main page.

 3. The cursor will be resting in the line next to Search for.  Type your subject in this line.  For this assignment, your subject is the name of your country of birth.  Be sure that you spell the name of your country as it is spelled in the United States.

4. After you type your subject, look to the right. You will see a box to the right of the words "Search In." Find the word "subject" in that box and click once to highlight it in blue.

5. Look for the gray Search button near the bottom of the screen and click on it once.  This will take you to the “Search Results” page.

6. Scroll down on the Search Results page until you see a table of results.  Look for your subject in the column under Heading.

7. When you find your subject in the Heading column, move the mouse pointer to your subject and click on it.  This will take you to the “title list” page.

 8. Scroll down on the title list page.  The titles of the books about your subject are listed in the Title Long column.

 9. Under each book in the Title Long column is the “availability” information for that book.  The availability information is displayed on a light yellow background.  It tells you the Location, the Call Number, and the Status of the book.

10. Look for a book that has the Location “Main Collection” and the Status “Available.”  This means that the book is shelved in the “Main Collection” (with the books that can be borrowed or “checked out” from the library) and is “available” (on the shelf).

11. Click on the title (in the Title Long column) just above the availability information.  This will take you to the “holdings” display.

12. Print the holdings display by clicking on the Print button at the top of the screen.
