Directions for Using Library Computers

Before you start, press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse to close the “screen saver.”

1.      The first screen you will see is titled “Welcome to Windows.”  Hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys (which are at the lower left corner of the keyword) and press the Delete key (which is to the right of the Enter key).

2.      The next screen is titled “Log On to Windows,” with “Microsoft Windows XP Professional” in large type.  The cursor should appear in the User name line.

3.      Look at the printout titled “Your System Account Information.”  Find your Username and Password on the printout.  Type your Username (it begins with “lib”) into the “User name” line on the “Log On to Windows” screen.

4.      Use the Tab key on the keyboard to move the cursor to the “Password” line.

5.      Type the password into the “Password” line.  You will see a series of asterisks (******), not the letters you type.  Be sure to hold down the Shift key to capitalize the first letter of your password.

6.      Click on the gray OK button below the “Password” line.

7.      Wait for the “Information Commons Acceptable Use Policy” to appear.

8.      Click on the gray “Yes” button at the bottom of the “Acceptable Use Policy.”

9.      Click on the “Start” button in the lower left corner of the screen in the “Taskbar.”

10.  Wait for the “pop-up menu” to appear.

 11.  Move the mouse pointer up to “Programs” and click once.

12.  Move the mouse pointer directly to the right.  Then move the pointer to “Internet” and click once.

13.  Move the mouse pointer directly to the right and then to “Internet Explorer.”

14.  Click once on “Internet Explorer” and wait for the “Holman Library” screen (the Green River library “home page”) to appear.
