Word Processing VI - An Application Letter
This is a typical business letter. It uses the block format
with all the lines starting at the left side of the page. Copy the format, but change the
content so that you are using it for a real purpose. You can repeat many of the same lines
and phrases, especially if you are applying for a job. You can find current jobs by going
to the Seattle Times newspaper or the South County
Journal Newspaper classified section. Find an ad with an address and the name of a
person to write to. If there is not a name, you can use the title: To Whom it May
Concern:

Mr. Charles Bream Dear Mr. Bream: I would like to apply for the position recently advertised in the Seattle Times for a mailroom in your company. I have a recent experience and meet the qualifications mentioned in the advertisement. I am working as an assistant in the print shop of Green River Community College as I am a student here. I have to print, file, and organize all the orders we are given. In addition, I was trained in customer service to help the staff and faculty who bring in print orders. I have worked in the print shop for seven months. Before my current job, I worked in my former country as a bookkeeper. I immigrated to the United States in February of 1999. I have enclosed a resume so you can see my educational and employment history. It is my hope my qualifications will be of interest to you. Please contact me at the above address for an interview. Otherwise, I can be reached at (205) 778-9864. Sincerely
yours,
