Papers handed back with brief notes

Take out draft, turn it over, answer these questions: (not a quiz, but questions to help you, the writer)
 1. What was your purpose in writing this paper?
 2. What did you want your audience to learn from reading your paper?
 3. What was the topic of your paper?
 4. What was the controlling idea of your paper – what controlled or limited your
     paper?
5. What were some examples that you used to show your controlling idea?

Keep these ideas for yourself and check these with your Rough Draft.

Shared topic sentences and asked class to evaluate them:
1.”The first fishing trip is one that I will never forget.” ( a story to be told, has a topic, is
supported/ “forget” could be the controlling idea)

2. “When I think of describing with one word what my mother means to me, she is my
    everything.”

3. “What is criminal justice?” Great idea to start with a question – attention getter, reader
wants answer, pulls the reader in

4. “A sense of humor helps most people do things easier.” Draws reader in

5. “My favorite thing to do is to travel around to different places.” Needs to be tighter,
    more concise.

What is the essence, what jumps out at you

Please type, double space and then hand in. Do not handwrite. TYPE!!!

6. “I remember one of my experiences that happened two years ago.” – this was the topic
sentence.”(“Painful Experiences Can Sometimes Teach Valuable Lessons” – this was
the title.) The word “experiences” is too broad – take the title, abbreviate it, and use as
    topic sentence.

Don’t be afraid to offer helpful criticism.

Class returned to groups, Shared PRL
Then returned to Chapter 25 and reviewed answers. This was done for HW last night.
