The job demand in broadcast captioning is

expected to triple by 2007

Federal legislation mandates that by 2006, 100% of new programming be captioned in order to provide people with hearing loss increased access to all types of television broadcasts.

 

Green River Community College is offering two independent retraining workshops to veteran court reporters like you who want to work as a realtime court reporter, CART provider, or captioner.

                                               Broadcast Captioning -Winter 2008 ..........$450
                               Times:  9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

                                                                  May 2 & 3, 2008

General Workshop Information

 

Realtime Retraining
This workshop will help you transition to a true realtime writing ability that you can utilize as a court reporting, CART provider, or broadcast captioner.  This is a hands-on workshop.  There is additional practice required. 
Equipment required:  Realtime capable steno machine, laptop with court reporting software, plus all cables, cords, and software key.

Broadcast Captioning Workshop
This workshop is taught by Chris Crosgrove, a captioner from Caption Colorado and Green River Instructors Lori L. Rapozo and Sidney Weldele-Wallace. Successful completion of this workshop and writing assignments will enable you to begin a career into broadcast captioning.  This is a hands-on workshop.  There is additional practice required and writing assignments that must be completed.
