The Internet (the web) has information about
almost anything you want to know about. Follow the steps in
this activity to explore the web. Print this page and
write your name at the top.

- Go to the
Seattle Times on-line newspaper.
An example story
Click on one of the
news stories that you want to read about. Click on the
print view button. 
and then print it by going to the File menu and select
Print.
Write the # (number) 1 at the top. Put that
page together with this activity paper. Now continue with
#2.

- Go to
Yahoo Weather.
Type in 98092 for the zip code for Auburn, WA. You will
see the weather for today and the next four days for
Auburn. Print this page, put the # 2 at the top and add it
to the others.

- Go to
Google Maps.
Enter this address for Green River
Community College: 12401 SE 320th St. Auburn, WA 98092
and press Search. This will give you a map of the area
around the college. Print that page, put the # 3 at the
top and add it to the others.
While you are at this site, play with the controls. You
can make the area larger and smaller by clicking on the +
and - buttons. You can also move the map by clicking on
the middle and dragging it around.

- Now that you are at this map, click the red
flag
 in the middle and then on
"Directions: To here."
 Enter your address and then click on
the "Get Directions"
button. 
You will see the directions from your house to the
college. Print these directions, put the # 4 at the top
and add the printout to the rest of the pages.

- Now click on the "Satellite" button.
 You
will see a picture of the area around the college. Play
with the + and - buttons and move the picture around to
get a good picture of the college campus. When it looks
good, print it, write the # 5 and add it to the rest.

- Now go to
Google Local to find stores or other community places
you may want to visit. Type the name of a store and your
zip code. One example is "Safeway 98092."
Press search. You will see many locations for Safeway
stores. Click on the one nearest to your house. Now you
can get details and directions like you did before. Print
this page, put the #6, and add it to the rest.

- Now you will have to find the address box at
the top of your computer monitor. Here is a picture.
Click in the box at the end of the address. Now use the
backspace key to delete the address and then type this
address: http://www.google.com. Then press the go button
or your Enter key. This will take you to the Google main
site. Print this page as #7.

- When you are at a web search location such
as Google, you can look for a lot of information. For this
activity, enter the information just like you see it in
this picture.
Then press Google Search. This will take you to the main
page for the Employment Security Department where you can
find a lot of useful information. Print that page as #8
and add it to the others.
