Before this trip please read the sections on the rocks, domains, and terranes of the North Cascades in Tabor and Haugerud's book, the Geology of the North Cascades. You may see me for a copy of the book that you may read at GRCC, or you will find the whole book online at the URL listed below:

This book is intended for the layperson, with no geological training. You may jump over sections that are review for you. If you have limited time, you could go to the link below which is the primary information that I would like you to read before the trip. Go through the section where they discuss the origin of the Skagit gneiss and the stitching plutons.
