| Final Exam: You have studied Pacific Northwest History during the past
quarter. Carlos Schwantes organizes his book The Pacific Northwest: An Interpretive
History into five sections: Isolation and Empire, 1740-1840; Pioneer's Northwest,
1829-1870; Frontier to Urban, 1870-1917; Progress/Discontents, 1880-1940; and Pacific
Northwest Comes of Age, 1940-1995. In a short 3-4 page essay, describe each of these
Sections, the major events in each Section, and the way each Section related to the
natural resources of the region.
Remember an essay has a clear Introduction, Body
Paragraphs each with a clear focus, and a Conclusion that summarizes your arguments.
Also remember to develop a clear strong thesis that provides a focus for your essay.
The quality of your essay is largely determined by how well you present evidence (specific
examples) to support your conclusions.
