Kyle found out about GRCC’s Information Technology
program by accident.
“I was studying computer science here at Green River, then when I was walking on campus one day, I saw a flier for the IT program. I decided to give the instructor a call.”
Kyle said he is happy he decided to pursue information technology.
“The hands-on learning has been great,” he said. “I’ve learned tons of stuff… things I never thought I’d learn. “
After graduating from GRCC, Kyle said he will transfer to the IT program at the University of Washington-Tacoma, and look into pursuing a career as a system administrator after college.
Jeanie Brown
Information Assurance
Age: 39
Before Jeanie started studying Information
Assurance, she processed warranty claims on freight
liners.
“It was okay,” she said. “It wasn’t my life dream.”
When she lost her job, she decided to pursue information technology.
“I wanted to do something I enjoyed,“ she said. “I enjoy this. It’s interesting to me. It’ll give me a chance to own my own business, which is my life dream.”
When Jeanie graduates, she will have earned a certificate and associates in Applied Science.
Christopher Richie
Information Assurance
Age: 26
When Chris received a post card about Green
River’s Next Step open house, he decided to attend because
two words stood out to him: Information Technology.
When I visited Green River, the facilities looked nice,” he said. “Alan [Carter] was informative. I’ve always been interested in IT, so I decided to sign up.”
After graduation, Chris plans on transferring to the University of Washington where he can complete a bachelor’s degree.
After UW, the sky is the limit for Chris, though he has some definite plans.
“I would like to get a job at the NSA or CIA,” he said. “I’m interested in pursuing computer forensics or anti-cyberterrorism.”
