Art in Math
Product Development and Timeline
AIM teams will work together over the course of the initial 7-months (January 2008-July 2008) of the project to design and develop curriculum modules that introduce and explore concepts shared by mathematics and the arts such as algebraic patterns, wave and periodic motion, linear , quadratic and cubic modeling, symmetry, proportion, and perspective. By mid-September 2008, a consultant writer, hired with grant funds, will have edited the modules for content and consistency of language.
In October 2008, the modules will be disseminated to school district partners and Green River faculty not involved in the project for peer review. Reviews will be completed by mid-November 2008. Modules will go back to the AIM teams for revision and product finalization. By December 2008, the modules will be ready for duplication and implementation in pilot school districts.
Actual implementation will take place during winter and spring quarters 2009. Project TIME currently has 10 high schools in 5 school districts piloting modules developed over 2006-2007. The modules developed by AIM will enrich the mathematical content of the senior math course. Evaluation of the modules’ success will occur at the end of spring quarter. Feedback from student and instructor evaluation forms will be compiled with a final report in June 2009.
