Success Stories
Summer Symposium 2008
On August 25 over 75 math educators and administrators from middle school,
high school and college participated in the 3rd Project TIME Summer
Math Symposium. The school districts who participated include Auburn,
Enumclaw, Kent, Edmonds, Tahoma, Highline, Renton, Sumner, Puyallup
along with Green River Community College and Seattle University.
After a wonderful dinner provided by Truffles Café Catering in Enumclaw,
Green River Community College President, Rich Rutkowski, welcomed everyone
by noting the importance of the job that math educators have. Project
TIME Director, Laura Moore-Mueller, gave a brief update on the senior
math course and other Project TIME events. From the University of Texas,
Austin Dana Center we welcomed Susan Hudson-Hull who presented the recently
edited Washington State K – 12 Math Standards (See
PowerPoint presentation). The format, content and
progress for training were discussed. Participants worked on activities
meant to familiarize them with the standards.
Funded in 2006,
Project TIME is a three-year grant-funded project made possible
by the Transition Math Project, a statewide initiative funded by the
Washington State Legislature and a $3.6 million dollar grant from the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
