Admissions
Here are some important dates that you need to be aware of when applying to get into the PTA program:
- Applications for September 2012 are accepted beginning March 1, 2012.
- General admissions applications are due April 15, 2012.
PTA program admission requirements and the application process are subject to change from year to year. If you are planning to apply for a later year, the packet will provide guidelines for the application process. The application packet is updated each fall for the following year and it is the applicant’s responsibility to be aware of current application requirements.
Students are selected for the program who have demonstrated academic competence and a familiarity with physical therapy including the essential functions of the physical therapist assistant student. The procedures used in selection, evaluation and retention do not discriminate and are consistent with the policies of Green River Community College.
Students who satisfy admissions requirements will be selected based on:
- Academic preparation including completion of prerequisites and gradepoint
- Demonstrated familiarity with physical therapy (including job shadow, experience (volunteer or paid) in physical therapy.
To submit an application to the PTA program, students must have:
- A college grade point average of 2.5 out of 4.0
- Completed required supporting courses, except AP 2 may be in progress*
- Documentation of at least 20 hours of job shadow or volunteer experience in physical therapy
- Note that beginning in 2010 a minimum grade of 2.3 (C+) out of a 4.0 in each required supporting course will be required.
*Qualified applicants who have not completed AP2 may be accepted on a provisional basis. Transcripts showing completion of AP 2 with a 2.0 or better must be provided by July 1, 2011. If AP2 is not completed with at least a 2.0, the applicant’s seat will be given to an alternate.
For the fall of 2010, the typical successful applicant had a 3.0 or better in most prerequisite courses, a college GPA of near or above a 3.0, and substantial experience in physical therapy or a related field.
