My Jazz

I am a hopeless (if not hapless) devotee of American jazz, particularly (but not exclusively) as it hardened in the 1950s, then metamorphosed to assume the freer forms of the sequent decade. Arranged alphabetically by artist, my personal collection begins portentously with the man and the band that first put the "hard" in hard bop—the inimitable Art Blakey (pictured) and his bedrock Jazz Messengers.
