What Is Direct Credit?

Tech Prep Direct Credit allows students to earn both high school and college credit for completing high school courses. For earning a grade of "B" (3.0) or higher in select high school classes, students can earn community/technical college credits. Credits are posted to transcripts during the summer following the school year in which they were earned. To qualify, students must meet specific requirements established by the college and high school instructors.

Through the South King County Tech Prep Consortium, Green River Community College, Highline Community College and Renton Technical College have articulation agreements in a variety of programs with the following school districts: Auburn, Enumclaw, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Mt Baker, North Central Technical Skills Center, Peninsula, Puget Sound Skills Center, Puyallup, Renton, Renton Youth Source, Sumner, Tahoma and Yakima.

Current programs include: Accounting, Allied Health, Auto Body, Automotive, Aviation, Business, Carpentry, Computer Information Systems, Computer Networking, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Drafting, Early Childhood Education, Manufacturing, Marketing, Natural Resources, Visual Communication and Welding. Agreements between high schools and additional professional and technical programs are being developed.

Contact your high school career specialist or counselor to find out what classes in your school are eligible for Tech Prep Direct Credit.

There is no guarantee that these credits will transfer to any other community college, technical college, four-year college or university.
