WWT 180 Wastewater Collection
Syllabus
Course Description
Composition and sources of wastewater; purposes of
wastewater collection systems; wastewater collection system components including
preliminary treatment, piping systems, and lift stations; wastewater collection
system operation and maintenance including inspecting, testing, cleaning; normal
and abnormal operating conditions. (3 credits)
Learning Objectives
Content-Specific Learning Outcomes – Students will demonstrate proficiency with these components of the course
content:
1. Identify
parts of a wastewater collection system.
2. Identify
equipment used during maintenance of wastewater collection system.
3. Describe
standard operating procedures within a wastewater collection system.
4. Describe
indicators of normal and abnormal conditions in a wastewater collection
system.
Course content learning outcomes will be demonstrated by assignments and summary
tests.
Campus-wide Learning Outcomes: Written Communication -Written
communication is an important skill that is necessary for conveying information
and ideas. Competent employees possess basic writing skills that include
the ability to accurately record information, prepare documents/messages, and
summarize information. Students in this course will be asked to
demonstrate good writing skills by incorporating the following items in their
writing:
1. Appropriate use of standard English
2. Clear organization
3. Application of appropriate typing/word processing format
4. Attention to mechanics, grammar, punctuation and usage including
complete sentences, correct spelling, verb tense agreement, subject-verb
agreement and pronoun agreement.
Campus-wide learning outcomes will be demonstrated by reading assignments and
summary tests.

Academic Honesty
Academic honesty is required at all
times. Anyone caught cheating will receive an automatic fail for the particular
test/assignment and the student will be referred to the Dean of Students for
discipline. Plagiarism, which is also a form of cheating, is representing
another’s work as your own.

Students have the option to receive a pass/non-credit grade. To exercise this option, students must submit a Pass/Non-Credit Petition Request to the GRCC Enrollment Services office no later than the end of the eighth week of the quarter (Summer Quarter dates vary).
